Everyday is a new adventure!

Things I've done over the past few days.

  • Filmed by a TV crew doing a promotion for the company.
  • Spent an entire afternoon decorating the training room with balloons, and streamers
  • Endulged in delicious catering food from our events (free dinner!)
  • Sat through 1 hour of serious talk witht he entire about 'being a family' by my boss. As a result motivated myself to expect a higher standard of work out of myself.
  • Watched Xmen3 with AIESECers, one who just came from the US and didn't sleep for 2 days...he was scary looking.
  • Been complemented by internationally-known internet marketing guru Alex Mandossian and my boss for a job well done during an event that set up.
  • Made my direct manager happy for a change!
It's been an emotional and psychological roller coaster the last few weeks but now i feel that things are calming down and i can absorb information easier. But it's not over! the learning continues. Now if i can only speak mandarin better....

Push the limit

Absolutely blinding! That is what I feel the pace is like here in Singapore. Everyone I've talked to had said that time passes so fast while you stay on this island. Its true, when you're working long days non stop day in and day out time just flies by.

My most crazy accomplishment yet: working a 19 hour day! God!

But seriously, finding a work/life balance is harder that it looks when you factor in job security, company culture, workload and your own personal goals. For me, I'm happy almost all the time I work long hours (even thought i can be quite stressful) because I've set goals to work up to.

I wouldn't mind a bit more sleep and a bit more play though. Trying not to crash 'n burn. But like when I started off as LCP, I worked crazy hours then things calmed down a bit into a groove. Hope thats the case here.

Working Hard

I've been working now for almost a week now and wow, i've now realized how hard working singaporeans and Asians are!

My first day i worked 15 hours, yet it seemed like it was a 'normal' day. Most of my days here I've spent 12-14 hours here and i've only had one day off. looks like my goal of learning to be a hard worker is going to happen..fast!

So what do they keep my busy with eh? Well as an Operations Executive i am in charge of all the logistics in an event. My job scope is in the public sector which hold free preview seminars so people can buy the entire program (3-5 days long) and in the corporate sector where our speakers go to venues around the city and speak to companies.

Not only am i in charge of those events I have to take care of the paper work side...which can mean a lot of data entry and bookkeeping.

I'm still learning the ropes but it will be a steep learning curve as May is a super busy month.

Work work work!

and mmm food, gotta love the food! Cheap and delicious!

The Wonders of Technology

In the picture above I'm ordering sushi from a computer. So after i click on the food i want it comes to my table in a bout 2 minutes...pretty nifty eh? Growing up in Canada, we never had the demand for these high tech luxuries. But now in Singapore, there is no shortage of stylish, innovative and captivating high tech gadgets. I also so a cool advertisment in the subway station. You know how you have projectors showing ads on the floors or on the walls, well they have those but they are motion sensitive. so there was this one ad where u could wave your hand around these little peices in the ad and it would move! They also have a special escalator for your shopping carts! i don thave a picture of it but..yah pretty sweet. Ah Singapore, u never cease to amaze me.

FYI, im sitting with Hoan, an alumni from @UBC, hes working for PWC here in singapore.
