Hello Singapore, Dave has arrived! I've been here exactly 24 hours now and I still haven't come to terms that I'm here. It'll definately take a while.

Anyways, I have some great people watching over me, especially Celine our alumni, and Sherina and Siew May from the MC in AIESEC Singapore. Best part so far...EATING!! AHHH more food, need it...but stomach hurting.

I'll write some more later once I catch up on sleep.

Dave

Forgive me for the following melodramatics:

18 year of schooling has prepared me for this moment:

It's only a few hours now until i leave. It's weird not having any school to go back to. I guess part of the challenge now is the whole mentality shift from school boy to fresh intern. A lot of the assumptions and plans I have right at this moment will be challenged and will no doubt change in the following year. It seems right now that the future is not predictable as it once was, which in itself has an upside. Though it is reassuring and no doubt less stressful to live life in regular patter, it can (and uni does) get boring. Unpredictability, uncertainty presents itself an unsettling (no pun intended) lifestyle. However, it provides the splash of reality that an ignorant university student needs - Life is not easy.

How hard is it then?

This question haunts me.

Going abroad isn't the same without unexpected setbacks. First lesson. Never assume your VISA is going to go through the first time. In AIESEC, we always dread this part. We never stop worrying about your interns until they step into the office.

Also, coming from my point of view, the intern, it's absolutely amazing what AIESECer will go through to get their interns over. I remember sacrificing so much for the sake of AIESEC and I never knew how much people appreciated what I and the other members did. But damn! You owe the host LC big time!

Random sidenote: There IS a God out there! What ever setbacks happen, it always seems to make the experience more interesting and (in the end better) off for you.

The Calm before (and after) the Storm

So I've finished my exams, cleaned out my room and started packing for Singpore. The last few days have been full of goodbyes and 'final dinners' and there's still more left to go to probably. These next few days will be significant to me not because I'm going on a plane to another place which ive done many times, but because I'm going on a plane to the next phase in my life ..so i believe. I can only image, worry, fantasize how it'll be like.

I've decided to dedicate the future posts to all those undergrads waiting to graduate and get a job. I'll talk about the joys and frustrations of a fresh graduate working in his first full time job. What does the companies keep you so busy with? What do people in the work force stress about instead of papers and exams? How do you adjust to the new lifestyle?

Here's to 'The Next Step'. Bring it on!
