Halloween Party at the AIESEC house!

Ah yes. It was also known as the "All-in-one Party': Mikes going away party, Emil and Marivic's bday party, and Sys's welcome party...and a Halloween party too.

I dressed as a German Shepard. I had a shepard's costume and i pinned a german flag on me. Pretty corny eh? That's my style!!

Tanveer was supposed to be a rocker. Marivic was the cute girl in the Tootsie Roll costume. Patty was a blonde cheerleader, and Mike was an asian tourist (ironically, he will be an asian tourist tomorrow when he arrives in HK for his internship.) Patty and Mike are part of the elite Colt (45) club. Those two crazy japanese guys with the painted faces are supposed to be Doraimon, a cartoon character. Oh yah, Emil dressed up as a 70's casanova! Hot!

Anyways, this concludes my 2-day marathon of silly drinking. Next marathon...NC06.

Jana's Reception
God, what a weird reception we had for her! So we were supposed to pick her up at the ferry. We were all ready and practicing our 'greatings'. So the ferry came, and all the foot passengers came off...but no Jana! We got her baggage though! So we guessed she went on the PCL to downtown Victoria! So we raced downtown and finally met her in the office of the bus station...God she must've been worried! Anyways...it happened, we have her now. Man, she must've been scared; no luggage, no LC! Eeek!! Confusion!!!! At least she loves her room (which we worked our asses off to furnish!) It's all good now! We love our intern!!!

Wow, what an awesome evening! Today we had our general assembly for the month and it was the funniest GA ever. We had about 25 people there, mostly all active members and the agenda was jam packed with lots of great sessions. First Jana "Shish" our intern for Slovakia did her brief into.
I'm so glad to see her!! She's going to be so much fun in the coming few months. After that, i had to do my speech about leadership. Good thing i wrote notes for my speech! Actually, it went pretty smoother than i expected. I hope i inspired a couple people to run for a VP position...trying!! After my boring speech Sang had his announcements about Global Village. They had a PPT about what they were up to. OMG, what a COCKY team! I love their attitude! They are so hilarious! I have never seen a porfolio so proud of what they do! Gives me happiness!
It was really awesome seeing so many new members and old members in one room, there's lots of energy in our group. Everyone is very supportive of eachother and i hope that translates into stronger LC culture and ...exchanges! Anways, after we went to the some place to look at halloween pumpkins. They were amazing! The detail!! Wow...i wish i could do that. We took a bus and walked for a bit to get there...it was sooo freaking windy. Leaves in my faces, in my hair, in my clothes. When did Victoria get this windy?? After we went to Christies Pub (as usual). I can't believe I talked non-stop for the past 5 hours. Thats so crazy!! I was so happy. Lots of good conversations. Felt that time went so fast! I'm glad to see some new members (and some really old guys) coming out to our socials. Today was a great day!
I heart my LC
Tomorrow I have a party from my Chinese class. More drinking! Then Saturday, the big 'all-in-one' Halloween party! It's going to be so much fun!!! I can't wait to see everyone there! But just what should i be....

seems life has calmed down a bit away from those huge highs and lows. This week was pretty much a high for me. but i forget why...hah, just a good feeling.

Anyways, i'm trying to figure out why some people can update their blogs almost daily...my life isn't that interesting! well, maybe it is but i always forget to share it! hmm, let me think what i've done....

Oh yes. Yesterday i went to a high-tech fair to get contacts for companies for AIESEC. At first i was a bit nervous because my marketing skillz haven't been in use for a month, but the first person i talked to totally boosted my confidence! Some guy from abebooks.com or something... at the time i didn't know who they were but i saw a new paper article about their workplace culture and how it's so relaxed (like most dot-com companies). Now i know they are big big, and they're right here in victoria.

Oh yes, the big topic on everyones mind is...who will succeed me as LCP... Yah...hah nothing to say about that.

My mind is too random now. talk later.

Post WRC and Blahhhh

WRC
Ok, all I can say about WRC is that it was ROWDY! I had forgotten how loud conferences can be. I've heard from other AIESECers who have gotten to attend international conferences that Canadian conferences are loud and so full of energy! Cheering and dancing non-stop!
What a workout! But aside from all that spirit, i talked to some newbies about my experiences and got to catch up with my national team (MC and the LCPs) as well as those other EBs. I loved the conversations i had. That's what i'll always enjoy, the calmess, the deep conversations people have. I don't like it when i'm around a bunch of really drunk people and they do a lot of stupid things. Alcohol is great and all, but you can lose your respect with it. It's sad to see some people i really look up to, drunk up their ass, and doing really stupid irresponsible things. (Araz doesn't count. I will always look up to her. ) U can still have fun drinking a bit or non at all.

Post WRC
Post conferences are notorious for putting you 'out of action' for a week, depending on the length of the conference. After i got home, i slept for 2 hours after a weekend of only 8 hours of sleep. Tuesday, thank god i had no school then. BUT i had aiesec meetings. So no rest then. Shirley came for her LC visit. She is so awesome! She is both ultra friendly but also professional enough to give you her honest opinion. Unfortunately we were both really DEAD for the conference. We had no voice, no sleep and no energy, but still doing aiesec work pretty much all day. I wish i was more awake to have a 'normal' converstaion with her but i wasnt. I was getting sick and i needed some quiet time after the conference, which i didnt get until just now. Anways, to make things short, her visit was great and i learned a lot about my local reality. Go TEAM!

More to come. Happiness

Rest in Peace Ahmed Arshi
1981 - 2005

From Kurt

When an AIESECer falls, it's almost like losing family. Thats how I
feel today. I just hope that we can all remember so many of the great
qualities he held in life. He truly was a man of action and a real hero for
many many youth in this world.

Ahmed would not be happy with so many people mourning his death, for
him death was just another journey, his ticket was up, and we should find
comfort in knowing that he is truly in a better place, and that his
memory shall live on through every single person that he touched.

In Islam, this is the holy month of Ramadan, they say anyone that
passes during this month will truly be blessed in the light of God. I know
Ahmed is truly blessed.

I knew Ahmed because he was my roomate for WRC 2004 in Victoria. I remember he came early to Victoria to visit Chris and i met him as we were going to the conference. I remember how pumped he was to be coming to his first WRC and at the conference how he was so energetic. He told me once at night about all the great opportunities in Dubai and which was an amazing perceptive on the middle east.

I've never lost anyone so close in AIESEC (and as a friend) before. It's a strange feeling im having now. Just reflecting. Life. It could end so early.

I'll miss you man. Good bye

WRC Pics:

Some samples. Good times!

You know you are doing too much AIESEC work when:

1 - You go more to conferences, lectures, trainings, seminars, meetings etc, than to real parties.

2 - Listen to the music that your friends never heard of.

3 - You know how to dance that music.

4 - At college, when you have to do group work, you insist to open postulation to the OC.

5 - You call your mom and dad stakeholders.

6 - You speak more English than your mother language.

7 - You never give opinions, but offer inputs.

8 - You don't accept gifts because they "don't follow branding guidelines".

9 - When you first think in the Holy Trinity, you think of @XP, Culture of Excellence and Branding.

10 - Your boyfriend or girlfriend is used to hear "ILY" instead of "I Love You".

11 - All your friends are tired of saying "no, I don't want to bring a trainee to my company".

12 - Before kissing someone, you first wonder how many points she/he is worth, not if you like her/him.

13 - You got a small lecture ready for any time when anyone asks "what is AIESEC?"

14 - You make a PowerPoint presentation to convince your dad to give you more money.

15 - Ask to your friends "feedbacks" on how your haircut looks like.

16 - Answer your home phone like that: "[your name], AIESEC, good morning"

17 - Call your parents saying "Hi, here is [your name] from AIESEC".

18 - When you have doubts in a school subject, you ask for the help of a mentor.

19 - In a wedding, you start to punch the table and shout "this is table number one, where is table number two?"

20 - Your MSN nickname is something like "John LCVP ER @PA BAZI People is cool - "I hate aiesec.net"

21 - 60% of your MSN friends have similar nicknames.

22 - Call "Alumnus" old school friends.

23 - Call old school friends gatherings as a "conference".

24 - Insist to make an output of that "conference" for a planning of the future gatherings.

25 - In a party, talking to someone is "show interest". Kissing is "matched". Having sex is "realized". Having sex again is "re-raised".

26 - If you decide to not go to class, it's a decision based on the credit policy.

NEW

27 - You and your friends constantly make 'It's up to you' jokes.

28 - You're actually answering those 'Hey, I'm from AIESEC Jaipur and I need your MT and ET SN's' emails!

29 - You schedule your classes around AIESEC meetings.

30 - You divide your MSN contacts into AIESEC regional groups.

31 - You are interested in CSR.

32 - You schedule 'coffee talks' with your friends.

33 - You think Brodie (or any PAI) is a God.

34 - When you rent the movie "ET Come Home" and all you can think about is Educational Traineeships.

35 - When you're packing for a conference and have to choose from 9 possible AIESEC shirts from 5 different countries.

36 - You can survive on 1 hour sleeps at conferences but can't seem to do the same for your classes.

37 - When you change your electives to pick up another language, or international studies or relations.

38 - When you have a list of drinking games to play without even thinking hard.

39 - When you give a friend a lift to school and you end up talking about AIESEC recruitment.

40 - You know that it IS about the numbers.

41 - When you use an X and a Triangle to symbol exchange during notes taking in your classes.

42 - You wonder what Ernie's girlfriend's name is.

43 - When you learn about a new company and your mind is already imaging a trainee working inside.

44 - When you know and have more foreigners as friends than locals.

45 - When almost all your statements have words like 'Basically, fluffy. random, awesome, sustainable, socially responsible, active learner etc.

46 - When asked for your occupation, you say : LCP.

47 - When you waste time trying to think up a new item for the list of " You know you're doing too much @work when.."

48 - It's up to you to get the list longer.

PLEASE ADD YOUR'S TOO!
